Join South Asian SOAR’s Board!
We’re looking for visionary leaders to help shape SOAR’s future. We invite you to join us—apply by March 31st.
About South Asian SOAR
South Asian SOAR is home to a powerful, long-standing movement to end gender-based violence in the South Asian American diaspora. Since our founding in 2021, we’ve grown into a national network of 50 grassroots organizations and over 200 survivors and allies united in our commitment to prevent and end violence. Together, we center survivors’ voices, build collective power, and strengthen the field to create a future free of violence and abundant with joy and justice.
Our groundbreaking work has been mentioned in NBC Asian America, Gothamist, and Prism. You can find more of their work at these links: Their Light Remains, Sanctuaries Storytelling Anthology, Research Reports, and their South Asians for Abortion Hub.
About SOAR’s Board
South Asian SOAR is seeking new Board* members to play a vital role in shaping our strategy, advancing our mission, and amplifying our work as we grow. We are seeking Board members who are collaborative, strategic, and proactive and are excited to contribute their expertise, resources, and networks to help advance SOAR’s work. Board members will collaborate closely with the Executive Director and other board members to scale SOAR’s impact and strengthen the movement to end gender-based violence in South Asian communities.
SOAR is at a pivotal moment—building on the foundation established during the organization’s first five years while continuing to grow as an early-stage organization in an evolving landscape. We are particularly interested in those with expertise in institutional or individual fundraising, communications, legal or financial expertise, and scaling organizational growth.
We are seeking members who can begin their terms in May 2026. Our goal is to build a Board that reflects diverse perspectives and remains deeply rooted in SOAR’s values.
*As a fiscally sponsored project of the Social Good Fund, SOAR’s Board holds the core responsibilities of a traditional Board of Directors, though final legal and fiduciary oversight rests with our sponsor’s Board of Directors.
The Board serves as a trusted partner to advance SOAR’s work through:
Ambassadorship & Amplification: Champion SOAR’s mission and amplify our work through your networks, public platforms, and partnerships.
Fundraising & Resource Mobilization: Support SOAR’s financial sustainability by cultivating new relationships with private and/or corporate funders, making a meaningful personal contribution; and/or amplifying SOAR’s work with personal and professional networks.
Governance: Support the growth and evaluation of SOAR’s leadership and board. Responsibilities include participating in annual leadership reviews, advising on governance structures, and supporting succession planning.
Strategic Guidance: Provide thought partnership across SOAR’s core strategies—field building, culture and narrative change, advocacy, and survivor leadership.
Legal & Financial Oversight: Review and approve SOAR’s annual budget and other financial documents to ensure transparency, sustainability, and responsible growth, and support on legal matters as needed.
We encourage applications from individuals who have experienced gender-based violence and those who hold marginalized identities across our communities.
Board Member Expectations:
Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per month
Term Length: One 2-year term beginning May 2026, with the option to serve an additional term
Meeting Attendance: Attend five annual virtual board meetings (2 hours each), and additional meetings as needed.
Committee Participation: Actively serve on at least one Board committee
Financial Contribution: Make a significant personal contribution and/or secure additional resources in alignment with SOAR’s give or get policy
Values: Uphold, practice, and continually learn about SOAR’s values and commitments.
