Uma is a survivor support advocate who is committed to political education and working with QTBIPOC communities, particularly in the context of violence prevention and gender justice. She has over 10 years of experience in survivor support that includes peer support, crisis response, advocacy, workshop facilitation, and support and accountability circles.

Uma previously worked as an Immigration Advocate and Case Manager for five years at HarborCOV, Communities Overcoming Violence, a domestic violence agency located in Chelsea, MA. She is also connected to DeQH, a helpline by and for LGBQ/T South Asians and was a volunteer with Saheli in support of South Asian survivors. 

Uma also has a background in political education including program design, curriculum development, and facilitation. She previously worked as the Political Education Coordinator at the Asian American Resource Workshop (AARW) and as a Mental Health Consultant for VietAID’s Youth Leadership Program where she facilitated conversations on community care and transformative justice with youth and young adults.

Uma is currently pursuing a Masters in Social Work (MSW) at Columbia University to explore how therapy can support community organizing. She loves fantasy/sci-fi and how this genre pushes us to imagine a world free of all forms of violence, both structural and interpersonal.
