Collective Statement on Abortion & Reproductive Justice

Last night, Oklahoma’s governor signed into effect one of the nation’s strictest laws on abortion.

Today, we are releasing our Collective Statement from South Asian Leaders on Abortion & Reproductive Justice, co-written and co-signed by individuals and organizations across the nation.

As we share this, we are still mourning, processing, and caring for each other in the wake of multiple tragedies from the mass shootings in Uvalde and Buffalo to the murder of a South Asian family in Harris County.

We live in a culture of violence. Whether it be gender-based violence, gun violence, or abortion restrictions, the root causes are the unquestionably same: patriarchy, power, white supremacy, and a nation that is collectively unhealed.

It is at this moment that we are grasping for Mariame Kaba’s wisdom — “hope is a discipline.” What’s even more powerful is when we collectively transform our hope into action.

With that, we urge you to read, sign on, and amplify our Collective Statement on our website and below.

In solidarity,

The SOAR Team & Board
